Carolina Marin hunts down PV Sindhu in PBL opener
World number two Carolina Marin defeated world number six Pusarla Venkata Sindhu in the opening match of Premier Badminton League 2017 in Hyderabad. The two met each other for the first time in a 11-point game format, with Hyderabad Hunters' Marin edging out Sindhu, who was representing Chennai Smashers, 11-8, 12-14, 11-2. The Hunters won the tie 4-3 after all the matches.
Vodafone Badminton Premier League 201
The Vodafone Badminton Premier League 2017 is the third season of Premier Badminton League and would take place from 1 January to 14 January 2017. Six team are participating in the tournament and the matches would take place in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Lucknow, Bengaluru and New Delhi. 15 league matches would be played before the tournament reaches the knock-out stage.
Mumbai Rockets' owners hit by demonetization
2016 PBL finalists Mumbai Rockets owners have pulled out of the 2016 season owing to financial problems. The league has found new owners for the Rockets and they will continue to be a part of the tournament.
Bengaluru Blasters beat Delhi Acers 4-3
In the second-tie of the day, Delhi Acers went down 4-3 before giving a tough fight to Bengaluru Blasters. The Acers won the first men's singles match before Blasters returned with a win in women's doubles and made it 1-1. An amazing second men's singles match gave Delhi a 3-1 lead, but Blasters went on to win the next two matches making it 4-3.
Today's schedule
Day two of the 2017 PBL will see Awadhe Warriors and Hyderabad Hunters face each other at Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. Saina Nehwal is the star player of the Warriors, while the Hunters have world number two Carolina Marin.
