PBL: Carolina Marin guides Hyderabad Hunters to victory
Carolina Marin took Hyderabad Hunters to a win against Bengaluru Blasters in the Premier Badminton League in Bangalore. In the women's singles match, she defeated Ashwini Ponnappa 9-11, 11-5, 11-8 giving the Hunters a 4-3 win. The win took the Hunters on the third place in the points table, behind Awadhe Warriors and Mumbai Rockets. Blasters are on the fifth place in the table.
Sameer Verma gives Hyderabad a winning start
Hyderabad Hunters started their campaign against Bengaluru Blasters with a win in the men's singles match. Sameer Verma had a rather easy win over Boonsak Ponsana in the first match of the day. The 2016 Hong Kong Open finalist dominated the whole game to win the match 11-8, 11-7. With this win, Hyderabad Hunters took a lead of 1-0.
Bengaluru make a comeback; win the mixed doubles match
Bengaluru Blasters' Ko Sung Hyun and Sikki Reddy defeated the Hyderabad Hunters' duo of Satwik Sairaj and Carolina Marin in the mixed doubles match 11-9, 11-7 to make the score 1-1 in the tie.
Trump win gives Bengaluru a 3-1 lead
Viktor Axelsen gave Bengaluru a 3-1 lead against Hyderabad Hunters after winning the second men's singles match of the day. The 2016 Rio Olympic bronze medalist Axelsen defeated B. Sai Praneeth 11-6, 11-5 in the Trump game for the home team winning two points from the match. Sai Praneeth was on his back foot during the whole match, giving way for Alexsen to win.
Today's schedule
The second day of Bengaluru leg will see Delhi Acers against Chennai Smashers. While Delhi Acers are placed at the bottom of the points table, the Smashers are on the fourth place.
