I-League: Robin Singh strikes twice; East Bengal defeat Bengaluru
Bengaluru FC was handed a 1-3 defeat by East Bengal at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore as Robin Singh scored two goals for visitors. Wedson Anselme scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute to give East Bengal a 1-0 lead. Singh then struck twice in 54th and 59th minute. With this victory, East Bengal have gone back on the top of the table.
The 2017 Hero I-League
The 2017 edition of the I-League began on 7 January 2017 with 10 teams. Bengaluru FC are the defending champions of the tournament. Churchill Brothers, Chennai City, and Minerva Punjab were given direct entry into the tournament. The other participating teams are Aizawl, DSK Shivajians, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Mumbai and Shillong Lajong. The season is scheduled to go on till May.
Aizwal defeat Chennai City FC 1-0
Aizwal FC registered a 1-0 win over Chennai City FC at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Aizwal. The only goal of the match was scored by Brandon Vanlalremdika in the 53rd minute of the match.
Points Table
East Bengal have jumped to the top of the points table with 24 points from 11 matches. They are followed by Aizwal FC with 23 points and then Mohun Bagan with 21 points. At the fourth and fifth place are Shillong Lajong Football Club and Bengaluru Football Club respectively. Churchill Brothers Sports Club are on the last spot.
Highest goal scorer
Shillong Lajong FC's Cameroonian footballer Aser Pierrick Dipanda has scored the highest number of goals in the tournament till now. In 10 appearances, he has nine goals. Mohun Bagan's Darryl Duffy and East Bengal's Willis Plaza are on the second place with six goals each.
