Federer makes a winning comeback at 2017 Australian Open
Playing in his first Grand Slam tournament after last year's Wimbledon, Roger Federer started his campaign at the 2017 Australian Open with a win. In the first round, he defeated Austria's Jurgen Melzer 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in two hours five minutes. Federer hit 18 aces and 46 winners as he played his first grand slam match after recovering from a knee injury.

The Australian Open is a professional tennis tournament, played on the hard court. It is the first Grand Slam tournament of the year and is played in the last fortnight of January every year. It was first played in the year 1905. The current men's singles champion is Novak Djokovic, while Angelique Kerber is the defending women's champion.

17 times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will be an underdog at the 2017 Australian Open after he dropped to 17th rank in the world. The 35-year old will start his campaign against Jurgen Melzer on the first day.
Top seeds make it to round two on day one
World number one Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber won their respective matches in the first round of the 2017 Australian Open. Andy Murray defeated 93rd ranked Ukraine's Illya Marchenko 7-5, 7-6(7-5) and 6-2 in a match which lasted two hours 47 minutes. On the other hand, Kerber registered a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win against 51st ranked Lesia Tsurenko in just two hours.
