Federer makes a winning comeback at 2017 Australian Open
Playing in his first Grand Slam tournament after last year's Wimbledon, Roger Federer started his campaign at the 2017 Australian Open with a win. In the first round, he defeated Austria's Jurgen Melzer 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in two hours five minutes. Federer hit 18 aces and 46 winners as he played his first grand slam match after recovering from a knee injury.

The Australian Open is a professional tennis tournament, played on the hard court. It is the first Grand Slam tournament of the year and is played in the last fortnight of January every year. It was first played in the year 1905. The current men's singles champion is Novak Djokovic, while Angelique Kerber is the defending women's champion.

The 2017 Australian Open starts from 16 January and will go on till 29 January 2017. The 105th edition of the tournament will have a total prize money of £29.4 million, a 14% rise from the last year.
Return of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to Grand Slams
After an injury prone 2016, the two of the greatest tennis players, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, will be returning to playing tennis at the 2017 Australian Open. Roger Federer took a break after Wimbledon last year due to a knee injury. Nadal was away from tennis after his fourth round loss at the US Open, last year.

17 times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will be an underdog at the 2017 Australian Open after he dropped to 17th rank in the world. The 35-year old will start his campaign against Jurgen Melzer on the first day.
Top seeds make it to round two on day one
World number one Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber won their respective matches in the first round of the 2017 Australian Open. Andy Murray defeated 93rd ranked Ukraine's Illya Marchenko 7-5, 7-6(7-5) and 6-2 in a match which lasted two hours 47 minutes. On the other hand, Kerber registered a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 win against 51st ranked Lesia Tsurenko in just two hours.
