Rohan Bopanna loses at the Australian Open
India's campaign in the men's event at the 2017 Australian Open ended after Rohan Bopanna crashed out in a second round loss in men's doubles. Along with Pablo Cuevas, Bopanna went down 6-2, 6-7(2-7), 4-6 to Australian pair of Alex Bolt and Bradley Mousley. He is yet to go past the third round of the men's doubles at the tournament.
Sania Mirza, Barbora Strycova into final 16
Fourth seeded Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova registered a rather easy win against Australian-Chinese pair of Samantha Stosur and Shuai Zhang to advance to the third round of women's doubles event. The Indo-Czech pair won 6-1 6-4 in one hour 21 minutes. They will now face Eri Hozumi and Miyu Kato of Japan in the next round.
Kuznetsova outclasses Jankovic in a three and half hour marathon
Former world number one and two time Grand Slam champion Jelena Jankovic was defeated by Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova in the round three match of women's singles. Kuznetsova won the three hour 36 minutes match 6-4, 5-7, 9-7 to advance into the next round. She will take on compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova for a place in her fourth Australian Open quarterfinal.
Kerber, Venus register straight set wins
Seeded first and thirteenth respectively, Angelique Kerber and Venus Williams registered wins in their respective third round matches. Both the players defeated their opponents in straight sets in less than an hour.
Roger Federer flies into round four
Roger Federer registered an easy win against 10th seeded Tomas Berdych to reach the fourth round of Australian Open for a record 15th time in his career. Federer won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 in a match which lasted only one and half hour. He will now face Asia's number one Kei Nishikori in the next round.
