Roger Federer reaches Australian Open finals
17 times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer reached the finals of 2017 Australian Open after defeating fellow countryman Stanislas Wawrinka. The four time Australian Open winner won the five set thriller 7-5, 6-3, 1-6, 4-6, 6-3 in three hours and four minutes to reach his sixth Australian Open finals. He will play his 100th Australian Open match on Sunday.
It's the Williams vs Williams saga in the finals
The United States' Serena Williams and Venus Williams reached the finals of the women's singles event after they defeated their respective opponents. Venus Williams had a tough 6-7(3-7), 6-2, 6-3 win against CoCo Vandeweghe in a two hour and 25 minutes match. Her younger sister Serena registered an easy straight set 6-2, 6-1 win over Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in just 50 minutes.
Paes-Hingis lose in quarter-finals to crash out of the tournament
Indo-Swiss pair of Leander Paes and Martina Hingis lost in the quarter-finals of the mixed doubles event to crash out of the tournament. They lost 3-6, 2-6 to Australian pair of Samantha Stosur and Sam Groth in a 55 minute match. The only Indian in the race for mixed doubles title is Sania Mirza, who will play her semi-final match tomorrow with Ivan Dodig.
Zeel Desai shown exit door in quarter-finals
India's top ranked junior player Zeel Desai faced a 4-6, 3-6 defeat from the hands of 16th seeded Elena Rybakina of Russia in the quarter-finals of junior girls singles event.
28th Grand Slam final for Federer
After winning the semi-finals match, Roger Federer reached 28th Grand Slam final of his career. Roger (35) also became the oldest man to reach the finals of Grand Slam since Ken Rosewall reached US Open finals in 1974. He was 39 years 310 days.
