India reach semi-finals of Hockey Junior World Cup
Indian defeated Spain 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the 2016 Hockey Junior World Cup to enter the final four. Trailing 0-1 after the first half, two penalty corner conversions from Simranjeet Singh in 57th minute and Harmanpreet Singh in 66th minute helped the hosts register a win. India will face Australia in the semi finals match today.
Belgium edge out Argentina in penalty shoot-outs
Belgium eked out a 4-1 win over Argentina in the penalty shoot outs after both the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the regulation time. Nicolas Poncelet, Arthur de Sloover, Victor Wegnez and Henri Raes scored a penalty each for the European team. Earlier, Maico Casella gave Argentina a lead in 44th minute before Victor Wegnez equalized the scores in 69th minute.
Germany win easy against England; to face Belgium in semis
Defending champions Germany registered a relatively easy win against England in the quarter-finals. They won 4-2 to seal their place in final four to face Belgium.
Australia fight to win against Netherlands; reach semis
Australia fought to register a 2-1 win against Netherlands and sealed their place in the semi-finals. After taking a 1-0 lead for Australia with a 18th minute goal from Kiran Arunasalam, Netherlands' Jip Janssen scored the equalizer in the 47th minute with a penalty corner. The winning goal for Australia came in the 58th minute by Jack Welch.
India in the semis after 11 years
The junior Indian team has reached semi-finals of the Hockey Junior World after 11 years. It was in 2005 when India had reached the final four. They had finished fourth in the tournament.
