Real Madrid reach FIFA Club World Cup finals
Spanish football club Real Madrid edged past Mexico's Club America 2-0 to reach the finals of FIFA Club World Cup at International Stadium Yokohama, Yokohama. Karim Benzema scored the first goal for Madrid in the 47th minute while the second goal came from the Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo in the 93rd minute. They will face Kashima Antlers in the finals on Sunday.
Kashima Antlers cruise into Club WC finals
Kashima Antlers advanced to the finals of FIFA Club World Cup after registering a 3-0 victory over Colombian club Atletico Nacional. Shoma Doi scored a 33rd minute penalty before Yasushi Endo and Yuma Suzuki scored two late goals in 83rd and 85th minute. Atletico Nacional dominated the first half, but Kashima's goalkeeper did not let the ball past goal post.
Antlers create history after reaching Club WC finals
Kashima Antlers created history after defeating Atletico Nacional in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup at Okasa. Kashima became the first Japanese club to reach the finals of the tournament since its inception in 2000.
Ronaldo scores 500th goal at Club World Cup
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 500th goal at the FIFA Club World Cup as Real Madrid reached the finals of the tournament. Ronaldo has scored a remarkable 377 goals for Real Madrid in 366 appearances. While playing for England's Manchester United, Ronaldo had 118 goals from 292 games. At Sporting, Ronaldo's first club, he had netted five goals in 31 games.
Real Madrid were not the better team: Club America coach
After the defeat, Club America coach Ricardo La Volpe said that his side was unfortunate to lose. He added, "I think luck was against us. Real Madrid were not the better team. I told the players they can be proud of the way they fought."
