India to meet China at the Asian Champions Trophy
After defeating Pakistan 3-2 in the previous game, India will take on China today at the 2016 Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in Malaysia. India have won two of their three previous matches while China have won just one of the three games played. It will be a do or die match for China if they want to secure their place in the semis.
South Korea register a win against China
In the only encounter of the day, South Korea registered their first win of the tournament against China to strengthen their semi-final berth. With a 5-3 win against China, Korea are now on the third spot on the points table. After trailing 1-5, China could not give a stiff competition to Korea even after scoring two goals in 43rd and 55th minute.
Japan to clash with Pakistan
In another match of the day, Pakistan will take on Japan. Pakistan are currently fourth on the league standings while Japan are last and still looking for a win.
Korea jump to third place after a win over China
South Korea surpassed Pakistan and reached the third-spot on the league standings with four points from three matches. They have strengthened their position for a spot in the semis. Host team Malaysia are on the top-spot, followed by India on the second place. Pakistan, China and Japan hold the last three spots of the table respectively. Top four teams will proceed to the semi-finals.
China can give a tough contest: Oltmans
Indian hockey team coach Roelant Oltmans said that Indian team cannot take China lightly. Ahead of the match, he added, "We need to raise our game further. Make no mistake, China can give a tough contest."
