The Proteas rode on Dean Elgar's 160 and Quinton de Kock's 111 to post 385/8 at stumps on Day 3.
For India, R Ashwin claimed 5/128.

Jadeja becomes the fastest left-arm bowler to claim 200 wickets
India's Ravindra Jadeja became the fastest left-arm bowler to claim 200 wickets in the longest format.
The all-rounder, who claimed 2/116, surpassed the likes of Rangana Herath, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc and Wasim Akram in this illustrious list.
Jadeja registered 200 Test wickets in just 44 matches and broke the record held by former Lankan ace Herath (47).

Ashwin claims his 27th five-wicket haul in Test cricket
R Ashwin was India's best bowler and he showed his influence at home once again. The premier off-spinner has raced to 347 Test scalps at 25.44. This was Ashwin's 27th five-wicket haul in Tests.
Elgar, De Kock
Elgar and De Kock slam impressive feats
Elgar went past the 3,500 run mark in Test cricket (3,572).
He registered his 12th career Test hundred.
This was his highest score against India in Tests and a first as well.
He also went past 500 runs against India (504).
De Kock went past the 2,500-run mark in Tests (2,509).
This was his fifth career Test century as well.

How did Day 3 pan out?
SA needed solidity on Friday but lost Temba Bavuna to be reeling at 63/4.
Faf du Plessis (55) got along with Elgar and added 115 runs for the fifth wicket.
De Kock came in and showed his aggressive nature.
He added a 164-run stand with Elgar to take the steam out of India.
For India, Ashwin impressed despite being challenged heavily.
