Zoom Phone debuts in India: Best communication solution for start-ups?
Zoom, the popular video conferencing platform, has introduced its first cloud-based phone solution, Zoom Phone, in India. The service has been officially approved by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). It promises to deliver reliable and secure voice communication features that integrate seamlessly with Zoom Workplace. This is the company's open collaboration platform that includes the Zoom AI Companion.
Zoom Phone allows inbound and outbound calls
Zoom Phone enables users to make both inbound and outbound calls via the public switched telephone network (PSTN). This feature allows businesses to replace their existing PBX (private branch exchange) systems and manage all their communication needs on a single platform. A PBX is a private phone network used within an organization, facilitating internal and external communication through various channels like VoIP and traditional PSTN lines.
Zoom Phone incorporates AI-powered features
In addition to basic call features, Zoom Phone also incorporates AI-powered capabilities such as post-call summaries, voicemail prioritization, and task extraction. These advanced features are designed to enhance productivity and user experience. The service meets the requirements of India's Unified Telecom license, which mandates the creation of a dedicated local interconnection infrastructure in line with regulatory standards.
Zoom's commitment to trusted service in India
Velchamy Sankarlingam, President of Product and Engineering at Zoom, stated that the launch of Zoom Phone in India underscores the company's commitment to providing a trusted service. He highlighted that "Zoom's cloud PBX service meets the requirements of India's Unified Telecom license which requires building the dedicated local interconnection infrastructure in accordance with regulatory requirements."
Zoom Phone's global expansion and customer trust
Sankarlingam also noted the global expansion of Zoom Phone, with five customers having over 100,000 seats in Q1 FY25. This growth demonstrates customer trust in Zoom for essential employee and customer experience processes. The launch of Zoom Phone in India is a significant step toward enhancing business communication solutions in the country.
