YouTube will now provide you with 'breaking news'
YouTube aims to be more than an addiction, where you keep on jumping from one video to another, killing time. Reportedly, it has now started rolling out a "Breaking News" section in the user feeds across platforms. This move comes as a bonus, while YouTube's parent firm Alphabet continues to curate custom content playlists for users logged in with Google Accounts. Here's more.
Content wise, its way superior
YouTube has matured like fine wine with age. Instead of mundane videos, it is now a place of serious business. We have seen the birth of YouTube stars like Lilly Singh aka Superwoman, PewDiePie and several others. Even in India, stand alone acts, like that of CarryMinati, BB Ki Vines or series from AIB and FilterCopy, have made it a go-to place for entertainment.
Is it a sign of changing times?
Facebook has just delved into the video content game. Although there has been a rise in video views, they are still disorganized in nature. YouTube's CEO Susan Wojcicki, on the other hand, informed that 1.5 billion people have watched an hour of video each on smartphones in June. Toppling that will not be easy. Moreover, YouTube gets more preference as it's purely about videos.
Let's see what we get
All said and done, its new Breaking news section comes as a mild surprise, as it's bit unusual. However, let's just go ahead with the belief that YouTube has an entire game plan chalked out. Who knows, maybe in the near future, we would see 24-hour broadcast news publishers branching out to this platform. YouTube specific news channels shouldn't come as a surprise either.
