Humans (and not algorithms) will curate new YouTube Kids app
YouTube is reportedly working to replace algorithms with humans for its new app for kids. According to BuzzFeed, YouTube may soon release a non-algorithmic, white-listed version of its app for kids. The video-streaming company is looking to offer human-curated content for kids, so that they are not exposed to questionable content. Here's how YouTube will go about it.
YouTube neither confirms nor denies the news
"We are always working to update and improve YouTube Kids, however we don't comment on rumor or speculation," a YouTube spokesperson said in an official statement.
The decision is a welcome move, amid longstanding concerns
While the decision is yet to be officially announced, this is a positive step forward for YouTube to make its kids-focused app more appropriate. For sometime now, there have been growing concerns over the kind of content that gets suggested to children. Uploaders often manage to manipulate YouTube's algorithm to suggest unsuitable videos to kids that appear friendly on the surface but have sinister content.
