Now, after a long wait, YouTube finally appears to be making the necessary changes. The folks at Android Police have cited multiple reports from YouTube Premium users, claiming that they are getting a new 1080p option to select while downloading a video. To note, soon after the outlet's report, YouTube also confirmed that the feature is being rolled out in select markets.
Is this option coming for Indian users?
YouTube has said that the new download option is being rolled out for Android and iOS users "in most Premium markets with more to come soon." The site hasn't specifically detailed the markets, but Android Police's sources include users from India, which means that people having Premium subscription in India are definitely getting the ability to scale up their download quality.
Efforts to make YouTube Premium more lucrative
The move from YouTube comes as it tries to make YouTube Premium a more lucrative offering for people around the world. In India, the service comes at Rs. 129/month and offers ad-free YouTube and YouTube Music, the ability to play videos in the background, and free unlimited access to YouTube Originals. Meanwhile, YouTube Music Premium alone comes in at Rs. 99/month.
