YouTube becomes widely available for JioPhone, JioPhone 2: Details here
While YouTube had been rolling out incrementally for JioPhone and JioPhone 2, the app has now become widely available on the Jio Store. YouTube was originally scheduled for roll out on August 15, but the incremental roll out led to many users not getting it. With the broader roll out now in place, you can enjoy YouTube easily. Here's how to get it.
You need the latest KaiOS version to run YouTube
The YouTube app for KaiOS is available on the Jio app store. All you have to do is search for it, and press install to begin the installation process. However, it should be noted that YouTube runs on the latest firmware, so your devices need to be updated to KaiOS 2.5 build number F90M-000-03-06-290818. To update, go to Settings > Device > Software update.
YouTube for KaiOS will have limited features
While YouTube for KaiOS will enable users to enjoy YouTube videos in both portrait and landscape mode, the app will not have all features offered on smartphones. Users will not have access to Dark Mode, or video downloading for offline viewing - watching videos will thus require an internet connection. However, JioPhones will support mirroring to larger screens via a dedicated cable.
YouTube becomes latest app to become widely available on KaiOS
YouTube's broad roll out marks the latest app to become widely available to Jio users. In Reliance's 41st AGM, Mukesh Ambani had promised to bring the "most popular apps" to the JioPhone. While Facebook was launched for KaiOS in February, WhatsApp's roll out got delayed, and the popular messaging service only recently made it to KaiOS. KaiOS also supports Google Maps and Google Assistant.
