Amazon Prime Video hits Chromecast, YouTube returns on Fire TV
Chromecast and Fire TV users are finally getting two of the most anticipated content streaming apps - Amazon Prime Video and YouTube. YouTube was blocked on Fire TV more than a year ago, while Prime Video had never debuted on Chromecast. But now, Google and Amazon appear to have resolved their issues, releasing the two apps for each others' platforms. Here are the details.
YouTube app on Fire TV, Fire TV 4K
Keeping the promise made in April, Google has initiated the roll-out of the official YouTube app for Fire TV Stick and Fire TV Stick 4K. The platform provides access to all YouTube clips and can be downloaded from 'Your Apps and Channels' section of Fire TV home screen. It even brings the ability to play 4K HDR content at 60fps on supported televisions.
YouTube will also work with your voice commands
Further, Google has confirmed that the YouTube app will work with Alexa commands. This means you'll be able to issue voice instructions to not just launch the YouTube app but also play, pause, forward, and search for videos. In addition to this, the search giant has also promised to bring YouTube Kids and YouTube TV for all Fire TV platforms in the coming months.
YouTube app is available in over a billion living rooms
According to official figures cited by Google, the YouTube app is already available in more than a billion living rooms around the world. The number is staggering and will increase further as the app hits more and more Fire TV devices worldwide.
Amazon Prime Video on Chromecast, Android TV
The other end of the dispute settles with the release of Amazon Prime Video for Chromecast and Android TV. Amazon's Prime subscribers can download the app from the Google Play Store and access Prime Video's humongous assortment of movies, shows, and originals. However, do note that you'll need a device running Android 5.0 or higher or iOS 10.1 or higher to cast content successfully.
