You can 'unsend' WhatsApp messages after 7-minutes. Here's the hack
WhatsApp introduced 'unsend' feature last month, allowing its users to delete messages within seven minutes of sending them. However, you can now unsend messages even as old as a week with a simple yet brilliant hack developed around the loopholes in the app's operations and your handset's operating system. The trick can be used by both Android and iPhone users. Here's how it works.
Here's how to unsend WhatsApp messages older than 7 minutes
All you need to do is: Disable your phone's internet connection. Stop WhatsApp - close its window. Check the date of when you sent the message you want to delete. Now change your phone's date to a day before it. Start WhatsApp again. Long-press the message. A few options will pop up. Click delete, then delete for everyone. Reset the date. Reconnect the internet.
The delete feature doesn't work on WhatsApp Web
Once you reconnect to the internet, your message will be deleted from the recipient's conversation. The app, however, might close unexpectedly after unsending the message. The unsend feature doesn't work on WhatsApp Web. But you can use it on your phone to delete a message sent from your computer. When you change the date, remember to also configure the time.
'Unsend' feature informs the recipient of the deletion
You and your contacts need to update WhatsApp to the latest version to use the unsend feature. Deleting a recently-sent message using the new facility will remove it from both your and your recipient's chat. But the recipient will get an alert informing them of the deletion. You therefore cannot censor your conversations without the other person knowing about it.
