Bixby can no longer be disabled on Samsung phones
Samsung's virtual assistant Bixby has been increasingly making its way into Samsung's flagship devices, with the Galaxy Note 9 being latest in the line. However, unlike earlier, Samsung has now removed the ability to disable the dedicated Bixby button, which can be a major turn off for some. Reports claim that the change affects Note 9 and other Samsung devices. Here's more.
Earlier, the dedicated Bixby button could be disabled
A lot of people had earlier expressed annoyance with the dedicated Bixby button on Samsung phones. The button couldn't be reassigned to other tasks, and was quite easy to press mistakenly, leaving many users miffed about Bixby popping up every now and then. However, Samsung did offer the ability to disable the button, thereby saving these users much displeasure.
Reportedly, Bixby can't be disabled in most Samsung devices
Now, according to reports by several publications, Samsung has removed the ability to disable the dedicated Bixby button in Bixby 2.0 in the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. Notably, the Indian Express reports that the inability to disable Bixby will affect other Samsung devices with a dedicated Bixby button too. There's no escaping Bixby now.
Bixby 2.0 isn't up to the mark yet
For those unaware, Samsung has taken steps to improve Bixby and make it competitive. In Bixby 2.0, the South Korean tech giant has focused on improving third-party app integration and has even partnered with Google and a few other companies to integrate their services into Bixby. However, as The Verge notes, Bixby's features and competence are "not even close" to Google Assistant's.
