This device can tell how your plant is feeling
Plants are counted among living species but it is very difficult to know their needs, like when they need water or sunlight - and in how much quantity. It's a problem for every individual maintaining a garden, but Belgian designer Vivien Mueller has a solution: a device that tells just how your plant may be feeling. Here's all about it.
Lua vase can decode your plant's condition
While looking for a way to treat his houseplant right, Mueller created a "Lua vase" that uses a range of sensors to measure the level of moisture in the soil and the amount of light being exposed to it, with temperature. On the basis of the gathered data, the 2.4-inch display of the device displays 15 different emotions depicting the condition of the plant.
What kind of emotions the display shows
If the plant is too cold or hot, the vase's display will show a face with clattering teeth or excessive sweating, letting you adjust sunlight accordingly. Similarly, if it has been watered too much or too less, it will show a sick face or one panting with tongue out, asking literally for water. As you provide water, it will go back to being happy.
Vase works with a companion app
Lua vase functions with the help of a companion app, where you can log what kind of plant you are taking care of. With this information, the app will calculate the needs of the plant and set the standards for optimal soil moisture, temperature, and light exposure. The readings from the sensors are then measured with the set standards.
However, not all emotions are related to plant's health
Lua displays 15 realistic animations but only six of them depict the overall health and well-being of the plant. The other nine include winking faces or grumpy expressions to make the plant more lively. To note, it even features motion sensors and tracks the movement of a person walking in front of it with digital eyes.
