Top tech terms India searched on Yahoo in 2017
Yahoo India has announced the "2017 Year in Review" that offers a sneak peek at the trending topics, events, and newsmakers that Internet users searched the most for this year. Yahoo India's "Top 10" technology list has a variety of tech-related things users were most interested in. From WhatsApp to Reliance Jio to video games, here are the tech topics that caught India's attention!
WhatsApp is the most searched tech term
WhatsApp is at the top of Yahoo India's "most searched tech terms" list. The Facebook-owned messenger has introduced several new features this year, including "Delete For All", Snapchat-like Status, two-step verification, live-location sharing, verified accounts, etc. WhatsApp is closely followed by "Smartwatch". This shows India's interest in fitness gadgets, having advanced technology as well as health tracking capabilities, has increased to a great extent.
Third, fourth positions on the trending searches list
Reliance Jio, which launched 4G operations in 2016, was the third most searched for keyword this year, says Yahoo India. In 2017, the Mukesh Ambani-owned telco introduced paid services, revised tariffs, released 4G JioPhone, etc. Meanwhile, "Redmi" -Chinese device-maker Xiaomi's smartphone line- came fourth on the list. Xiaomi has become a top seller in India, thanks to the budget-friendly Redmi phones released this year.
This video game beat Samsung Mobile
"Grand Theft Auto (GTA)" was the fifth most searched tech term. It is an action-adventure video-game series, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2017. It released nearly 15 titles so far and is among the commercially successful video-game series. GTA was followed by "Samsung mobile". Samsung had a great year so far, releasing the premium Galaxy S8/S8+, Note 8 phablet, and other mid-range phones.
The two smartphones on the list
"Nokia 6" and "Samsung J7" are the two smartphones featured on Yahoo India's list, at the seventh and eighth places, respectively. HMD Global's upper-mid-range Nokia 6, priced at Rs. 14,999, gave a fierce competition to competitors. It is followed by "Samsung J7" (Galaxy J7 2017), which offers nearly all the features a buyer looks for at a starting price of below Rs. 15,000.
Clash of Clans ninth most searched tech keyword
At ninth position is the online game "Clash of Clans" that is set in a fantasy-themed world. It is among the most popular Android games played by millions every day. Next is "OPPO mobile"; the Chinese company is known for its selfie-focused handsets. OPPO's sales jumped 750% in India this year. With high demand, OPPO surpassed India's Micromax and Sony in revenue terms.
