Xiaomi teases new storage variant of Redmi Go in India
Xiaomi is all set to launch a higher storage variant of its entry-level Redmi Go in India, according to an official teaser. The Android Go-based phone, which was recently launched with 8GB of internal storage, is expected to get a new 16GB storage model. The Android Go operating system (OS) by Google is an optimized version of the Android Oreo OS which is tailored for entry-level smartphones. It runs the Lite version of several Google apps, which load faster, use less data and take up less space.
Xiaomi Redmi Go: At a glance
To note, Redmi Go sports prominent bezels up front while the back looks clean with a single rear camera. It offers a 5-inch HD (720 x 1280 pixels) display with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 296ppi. In the camera department, the phone offers an 8MP (f/2.0) rear camera capable of recording videos at 1080p and a 5MP (f/2.2) selfie camera.
The smartphone runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset
The Redmi Go is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor, coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal memory which is expandable upto 128GB via a micro-SD card. Notably, the upcoming 16GB storage model of Redmi Go might offer 2GB of RAM. Under the hood, the phone packs a 3,000mAh battery and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo (Go edition).

In terms of connectivity options, the Redmi Go supports dual-SIMs with 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, and Hotspot. The smartphone also comes equipped with GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, micro-USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It offers all standard sensors such as an accelerometer, proximity sensor, and ambient light sensor. However, it misses out on a physical fingerprint scanner.
Redmi Go costs just Rs. 4,500 in India
In India, the Redmi Go comes at a pocket-friendly price of Rs. 4,499 for the existing 1GB RAM and 8GB storage variant. Hence, we can expect the upcoming 16GB storage model to cost around Rs. 5,500-6,000.
