Riding high on the success of Redmi Note 4, China's Xiaomi is working on its successor, Redmi Note 5. While the specifications for Note 5 were leaked earlier, the alleged specifications and pictures of its low-end variant 'Redmi Note 5A' have now cropped up online; both are expected to launch on 21 August. Take a look at what the smartphones are alleged to offer!
The budget-friendly variant of Redmi Note 5
According to the leaked specs, Note 5A would be sporting a 5.5-inch HD (720x1280) display. It is said to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor along with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. It would also have a rear fingerprint scanner and is expected to pack in a 3,080mAh battery. The 5A variant would run on Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.
Redmi Note 5 sports much denser display
The Redmi Note 5 would feature a denser 5.5-inch Full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display. It is rumored to pack either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 or a 660, a 3,790mAh battery, and a fingerprint scanner. The leaks suggest it would be available in three RAM and internal storage variants: 3GB/32GB, 4GB/32GB, and 4GB/64GB. It would run on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat.
Camera on the phones
The mid-range Redmi Note 5 is expected to house a 16MP primary camera and a 13MP front-facing camera. Its low-end variant Note 5A would come with a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP snapper on the front.
Rumored prices of Xiaomi's next smartphones
The latest leaks suggest that Xiaomi may price the Redmi Note 5A at CNY 999 (around Rs. 9,600). The rumored prices of the three Redmi Note 5 variants are: CNY 1,200 (approximately Rs. 11,500) for the 3GB/32GB variant, CNY 1,400 (about Rs. 13,500) for the 4GB/32GB variant, and CNY 1,500 (approximately Rs. 14,500) for the 4GB/64GB variant.
Fingerprint scanner placement
Earlier leaks suggested the Redmi Note 5 would be the first Xiaomi smartphone to have a fingerprint scanner on the front, below the display. However, recent reports say both Note 5 and 5A would have the fingerprint sensor on the rear panel.
