Xiaomi Mi Play launched: Specifications, features and price
Expanding its product portfolio, Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has launched Mi Play in its home country. As the first phone in the Play series, it features a waterdrop notched full-HD+ display, gradient design, dual rear-camera, and mid-level internals including MediaTek Helio P35 chipset. In China, Mi Play has been priced at 1,099 yuan or roughly Rs. 11,000. Here's our roundup.
Xiaomi Mi Play: At a glance
Up front, the phone sports an edge-to-edge display with a waterdrop notch and sizeable top and bottom bezels. On the back, it has a glass-like chassis with gradient design, dual camera setup and a fingerprint scanner. The Mi Play features a 5.84-inch full-HD+ (1080x2280 pixels) display with a 19:9 aspect ratio.
For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers
The Mi Play sports a dual rear camera setup comprising a 12MP primary sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, paired with a 2MP secondary sensor and an LED flash setup. Up front, the phone gets an 8MP selfie snapper. Moreover, we expect both the cameras to offer several AI-based features such as smart HDR and Portrait mode.
Under the hood
The phone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 chipset, paired with IMG GE8320 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built storage (expandable upto 256GB). Xiaomi Mi Play runs Android Oreo-based MIUI 10 and packs a 3,000mAh battery. Further, it supports dual SIMs, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11a/c, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/A-GPS, micro USB port, and packs all the standard sensors.
Pricing and availability
In China, Mi Play is priced at CNY 1,099 (approx. Rs. 11,000) and will be available in Black, Dream Blue, and Twilight Gold color options. The phone went on sale from December 25 and comes bundled with free 10GB monthly data for 12 months. Unfortunately, there are no details about the handset's availability in India.
