Xiaomi's Android One phone, Mi A1, reportedly explodes while charging
A unit of Xiaomi's Mi A1, the phone that drew immense appreciation for its design and camera performance, has reportedly exploded. The device, company's first in the Android One category, is said to have exploded while it was being charged overnight. Fortunately, the owner of the device, who was asleep at that moment, wasn't injured in the incident. Here are the details.
Explosion occurred overnight
The case came to light when a member of the MIUI forum posted pictures of the exploded device. He said the phone's owner went to sleep after placing it on charge and was jolted from its explosion. However, as the phone was pretty far, he didn't realize what had happened and went back to sleep, but only to a damaged unit the next day.
No prior heating issues
In the post, the member stated that the phone, which was eight months old, worked absolutely well, without any charging or heating issues. It is worth noting here that the claim has not been independently verified. Also, it remains unclear if the charger used by the person in question was authentic or not.
Owner has reached out to Xiaomi
The member has stated that Xiaomi has been reached to fix, replace or compensate for the exploded device, but there's still no word on what action has been taken. Notably, this is the first instance of explosion relating to Mi A1. The phone was launched earlier this year with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, but its major highlight was stock Android experience with no-to-little bloatware.
