Xiaomi's touchscreen smart speaker is a Google Nest Hub lookalike
As the latest addition to its portfolio of smart home products, Xiaomi has launched the XiaoAI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 in China. The device looks a lot like the Google Nest Hub, featuring an 8-inch screen and a built-in speaker system. In China, the smart speaker will go on sale starting December 18. Here's our roundup.
XiaoAI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8: At a glance
The XiaoAI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 features a conventional rectangular screen on the front along with a cylindrical speaker setup at the bottom, similar to the Google Nest Hub. However, unlike the Google smart speaker, it has a front-facing camera. Further, the Xiaomi rival has an 8-inch multi-touch display with 1280x800 pixels resolution and a proprietary far-field voice-recognition technology.
It supports all the latest connectivity features
The Xiaomi smart speaker packs a 50.8mm 10W driver that is coupled with three subwoofers to offer powerful audio. In terms of connectivity, it supports dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth v5.0 and is compatible with devices running Android 4.4/iOS 9.0 or higher.
The smart speaker supports a range of over-the-top (OTT) platforms
The touchscreen smart speaker works with a range of over-the-top (OTT) platforms such as Douyin, iQiyi, and Youku. The device also lets you make video calls, set reminders and alarms, control various smart devices, or use it as a digital photo frame. It also comes with XiaoAI digital assistant which can be used to perform tasks using voice commands.
Pricing and availability
The Xiaomi XiaoAI Touchscreen Speaker Pro 8 is priced at 499 yuan (roughly Rs. 5,100). The device is currently listed on the Xiaomi YouPin platform and it will be available for purchase starting December 18 via online portals such as Mi.com and JD.com.
