Xiaomi Black Shark gaming smartphone launched: Specs, Price and more
Xiaomi-backed Black Shark has launched its first-ever gaming smartphone in China; it may soon enter other markets also. Titled, Xiaomi Black Shark, this quintessential gaming handset comes with a dedicated controller. The smartphone also features top-end specs like Snapdragon 845 SoC processor, up to 8GB RAM and competes directly with the Razer Phone launched last year. Here's our Black Shark roundup.
Black and green design aesthetics and a glowing logo
In terms of design, Xiaomi Black Shark comes with rounded corners and has matte-finished curved panels on the rear side which allow for a comfortable grip. Much like the Razer phone, Black Shark features green and black colored design aesthetics and the green Shark logo lights up and breathes when you play games. The phone measures 9.25mm in thickness and weighs 190 gram.
Super bright Full-HD+ display and Surround sound
The Xiaomi Black Shark gaming smartphone features a 5.99-inch full-HD+ (1080x2160 pixels) display with brightness up to 550 nits and an 18:9 aspect ratio. Moreover, the smartphone supports DCI-P3 Wide color gamut that goes up to 97 percent to offer accurate graphic color rendering. In terms of audio, the phone offers Surround sound for an enhanced gaming experience.
For photographer turned gamer or vice-versa
While the phone is a dedicated gaming machine, it comes with a dual-rear camera setup, sporting a 20-megapixel sensor and a 12-megapixel sensor, both with f/1.75 aperture and LED flash. For selfies, you get a 20-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture.

The Xiaomi Black Shark is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, coupled with Adreno 630 GPU and 6GB/8GB RAM variants. In terms of on-board storage, the phone comes with two variants - 64GB and 128GB. Moreover, the phone packs a massive 4,000mAh battery and supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Out-of-the-box, the smartphone runs Android 8.0 Oreo with a skinned Joy UI layered on top.
On-board sensors and connectivity options on the Xiaomi Black Shark
In terms of connectivity options, Xiaomi Black Shark includes 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, AGPS, and Glonass. For on-board sensors, the phone is equipped with Gyroscope, Geomagnetic, Gravity Sensor, Proximity Sensor, and Ambient Light sensor.
Xiaomi Black Shark comes with a dedicated gamepad as well
Xiaomi is also offering a controller dock for the Black Shark. It's essentially an analogue controller that can be attached to the phone. The controller features a joystick and a trigger button at the top which are customizable. This controller has been priced at CNY 179 ( roughly Rs. 1,900). However, one of these controllers will be bundled with the Black Shark smartphone.
Price and Availability
This gaming smartphone has been announced at a starting price of CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 31,100) for the 6GB RAM/ 64GB variant and CNY 3,499 (roughly Rs. 36,300) for the 8GB/128GB variant. Notably, the phone comes in two colors - Polar Night and Sky Grey.
