#LeakPeek: Xiaomi Black Shark 2 could launch on October 23
Xiaomi-owned Black Shark could launch its latest gaming smartphone as early as October 23, according to a leaked poster. Recently, the company's global website teased the smartphone with phrases like "Sharks Approaching" and "Unleashing Soon", hinting at an imminent launch. Further, the phone has passed TENNA certification and was recently spotted on GeekBench sporting 8GB RAM and Snapdragon 845 processor. Here's everything we know.
Black Shark 2: At a glance
As per a short hands-on video of an alleged Black Shark 2, the back side of the device will sport a vertically-stacked dual camera setup - unlike the horizontal camera setup on Black Shark. Further, the phone will have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and RGB lighting as against front-mounted fingerprint sensor on its predecessor. Notably, these design features also match with TENNA certification images.
For the shutterbugs and selfie lovers
As per the previous leaks, the Black Shark 2 will feature a dual rear-camera setup. However, we do not have any details about the optics. For comparison, the Black Shark's camera setup comprises a 20-megapixel sensor and a 12-megapixel sensor, both with f/1.75 aperture and LED flash. For selfies, the phone comes with a 20-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture.
TENNA listing leaks key specifications
The Back Shark 2 recently passed TENNA certification, giving away key specifications of the device. As per the TENNA listing, the phone will sport a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display, 4,000mAh battery, and run Android Oreo 8.1 out-of-the-box. Further, it will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, paired with Adreno 630 GPU, up to 8GB of RAM and may come with a thermal management system.
Black Shark 2 was recently spotted on GeekBench
Black Shark 2 ( device name "blackshark AWM-A0") was recently spotted on GeekBench - a cross-platform processor benchmark. The device, with Snapdragon 845 SoC, Android 8.1 Oreo, and 8GB RAM, was listed with a single-core score of 2403, and a multi-core score of 8389.
Black Shark 2: Pricing
In China, the Black Shark was launched at a starting price of CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs. 31,100) for the 6GB RAM/64GB variant and CNY 3,499 (around Rs. 36,300) for the 8GB/128GB variant. Hence, considering Black Shark 2 will share specs of its predecessor but feature some design changes, we can expect it to be priced at around CNY 2,999.
