Elon Musk's social media venture X to launch TV app
Elon Musk's social media venture, X (formerly known as Twitter), is set to introduce a dedicated TV app. The announcement was made by X CEO Linda Yaccarino on Tuesday. She described the upcoming app as a "go-to companion for a high-quality, immersive entertainment experience on a larger screen." The launch date remains undisclosed but it is expected to be available soon on most smart TVs.
X TV app to sport YouTube-like UI
The X TV app will sport a user interface similar to YouTube, as revealed in a teaser video by the company. It will also include features like a trending video algorithm and AI-powered topics. Yaccarino emphasized that these features aim to provide a personalized viewing experience for the users. The app's advanced video search feature is designed to speed up content discovery.
X TV app will support cross-device viewing
The forthcoming X TV app will support cross-device viewing, allowing users to start watching a video on their smartphones and later continue watching it on their smart TVs. Users will also have the ability to cast videos from their mobile devices to the TV screen. This feature is part of Yaccarino's strategy to reposition X as a "video-first platform" and attract more content creators.
X revises video upload policies ahead of app launch
In line with the upcoming app launch, X has revised its video upload policies. The platform now allows its paid users to upload longer, higher-resolution videos. Free users can upload videos up to 140 seconds long, while Premium users can post 1080p videos up to two hours long or 720p videos up to three hours long via the platform's web browser or X's iOS app.
