X expands passkey logins to iOS users worldwide
X, formerly known as Twitter, has extended its passkey login feature to its global user base accessing the app on an iPhone. Initially launched for iOS users in the United States in January, this enhanced security measure is now accessible to all iOS users of the app. The worldwide expansion was confirmed by the X Safety account, providing a larger audience with a safer login option.
Passkeys: A robust defense against unauthorized access
Passkeys offer a superior level of security compared to traditional passwords. They are resistant to phishing and social engineering attacks, providing a robust defense against unauthorized access. When setting up a passkey login, users create a unique key pair that serves as their digital identification. The platform only has access to one key and needs to match it with the other key stored on the user's device for identity verification.
How to enable passkeys on X for iOS users
To activate passkeys on X, users must open their iOS app and navigate to "Settings and privacy" under "Your account." In the "Security and account access" section, they will find Passkey under "Additional password protection." As of now, X has not revealed if or when this feature will be made available for Android users.
