Massive cyberattack by nation or group behind X outage: Musk
What's the story
Elon Musk, the owner of X, has revealed that his social media platform is dealing with a "massive cyberattack."
He said that it could be the work of a large, coordinated group or even a country.
"There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X. We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved," Musk said in a post on X.
Service interruptions
X suffers 3 major outages in a day
Musk's announcement comes as Downdetector reported sporadic outages on X, impacting thousands of users in the US, the UK, India, and other parts of the world.
There have been three major outages today. The first issue was detected around 3:30pm IST, followed by another spike at 7:00pm IST and a third one at around 9:00pm IST.
According to Downdetector's data, more than 40,000 users across the globe have reported service interruptions.
Widespread effects
Outages impact both app and website
As per Downdetector, 56% of users are facing issues with the app itself, while 33% are having problems on the website. Another 11% have reported issues with server connections.
While some regions are seeing partial restoration of services, many users still find the platform inaccessible.
As of this writing, certain X services, such as account login through the app and website, and the ability to post, were restored in India.
