X experiences widespread outage, affecting thousands of users globally
Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a widespread outage this morning, affecting thousands of users across the globe. Reports on Downdetector, a website that tracks online service outages, indicated a significant spike in user-reported issues starting around 9:00am IST. At the height of this interruption, over 36,500 reports were recorded in the US alone. The outage appeared to be impacting various functionalities of the platform, including the ability to post, access timelines, and send direct messages.
Outage also affected users in Canada, UK, and India
The outage wasn't limited to the US. Downdetector's data revealed that over 3,300 reports were filed from Canada and 1,600 from the UK. In India too, users faced issues with X's services. Users encountered difficulties with pages not loading on the site. They were met with an error message stating "something went wrong, try reloading." The exact cause behind this global service disruption remains unclear as of now.
X yet to comment on the global outage
As of now, X has not issued any statement regarding the outage or its cause. This lack of communication has left users in suspense about what led to this widespread service disruption and when they can expect a resolution. Today's outage follows a Spaces conversation between platform owner Elon Musk and former US President Donald Trump earlier this month, which was disrupted by an outage that Musk attributed to a massive cyberattack.
