Now, your Android phone's notifications will appear on Windows 10
Microsoft's 'Your Phone' app for Windows 10 is getting a handy new feature - notifications. Yes, the app that the Redmond giant plans to use for phone mirroring will now show notifications from a paired Android device. The capability has just started rolling for insiders running Windows 10 1803 (RS4) build, but it comes with certain caveats. Here are the details.
Your Phone notifications to boost your productivity
With the new feature, you won't have to reach out for your phone to see who's messaging; the notification will show up on the desktop itself. It will appear in real time, saving you from the trouble of logging onto the web version of a particular service to check for updates. Evidently, this feature can boost your focus and productivity while working.
Plus, you can customize notifications you want to receive
The feature will offer customization option which would let you choose the apps you want notifications from. Once you have defined that, the notifications will show up in real time; if you clear them on one device, they will go away from the other. You will also be able to view all notifications together and clear them from the PC in one go.
Notifications even for apps that aren't available on desktop
To note, the Android notifications fetched by the Your Phone app can also come handy for those apps that aren't available on Windows 10 or on the web, like Snapchat, Kik et al.
However, you'll need Android 7.0 or newer for this feature
While the feature is useful, you should note that it would only work when you have Windows 10 1803 (RS4) build (or newer) installed and a phone running Android 7.0 with at least 1GB of RAM under-the-hood. Also, it is worth noting that you will only get the opportunity to see the notifications and there is no way to reply back on the same.
Microsoft is also improving Your Phone's mirroring support
Along with notifications, Microsoft is also bringing enhanced support for the phone mirroring feature it had announced a month ago. The capability, which lets you use Android apps on Windows 10, was limited to a select phones till last month. But now, the support has been extended to OnePlus 6, 6T, Galaxy S10, S10e, S10 Plus and Galaxy Note 8,9.
