WhatsApp for Android to get 'Favorites' filter: How it works
WhatsApp is preparing to roll out a new firmware via the Google Play Beta Program, upgrading the app to version 2.24.9.33. The update, currently under development, will introduce a 'Favorites' filter in the chats tab for Android users. This feature was initially announced in the WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.4.10.76, and allows users to easily access important conversations by streamlining favorite contacts and groups.
The feature is currently in beta phase
The newest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.33, available on the Google Play Store, indicates that the 'Favorites' filter is being developed for Android users as well. A preview from the beta version shows this dedicated filter in the chats tab for quick access to favorite contacts and groups. Users can select their favorites either within this filter or from within the app settings, simplifying the prioritization of important chats and frequent interactions.
WhatsApp working on an in-app dialer feature
In addition to 'Favorites,' WhatsApp is also working on an in-app dialer. This new feature will allow users to make calls directly from the app without needing to save numbers in the address book.
Sharing files without internet connection
WhatsApp is also developing a feature to share files and documents without an internet connection. This feature will include a dedicated section within the app settings, for managing permissions for sharing files with nearby individuals. Users will only be visible to others if they navigate to the same screen within their WhatsApp app, and grant permission for their device to be detected and connected. The file sharing process will remain end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and security.
