WhatsApp working on account limitation feature to promote responsible usage
WhatsApp is set to roll out a new feature in an upcoming app update, as revealed in the latest version 2.24.10.5 via the Google Play Beta Program. The highlight of this upgrade is an account limitation tool, still under development and not yet ready for beta testing. This announcement follows a previous statement, that WhatsApp was developing a review mechanism for suspended channel owners.
How will account limitation feature work?
The new account limitation feature in WhatsApp will impose temporary restrictions on user accounts due to specific violations. Users under this limitation will be unable to send messages for a certain period, but they can still receive messages and respond to them from existing chats and groups. This ensures that essential communication is not entirely disrupted.
WhatsApp's approach to identifying abusive behavior
WhatsApp uses automated tools to detect abusive spam-like behavior, automated or mass messaging, and other activities in violation of its terms of service. These tools do not access message and call content due to end-to-end encryption, but rely on certain behavioral patterns like message-sending frequency or the use of automated scripts.
A chance for user behavior rectification
By limiting accounts instead of banning them outright, WhatsApp aims to give users a chance to correct their behavior, without losing access to their data. The goal is to ensure responsible platform usage, so that everyone can connect and communicate without being subjected to abuse, spam, or other disruptive activities. More details about this new feature will be revealed as its development progresses.
