Soon, WhatsApp Web will also get a dark mode
After months of internal tests, WhatsApp is finally making some progress with the rollout of dark mode. The feature can already be tried on iOS and Android beta, and if a new report is anything to go by, it will soon be available on the desktop and web version of WhatsApp, as well. Here's all you need to know about it.
Tipster leaks dark mode for WhatsApp desktop and web
Just recently, popular WhatsApp tipster WABetaInfo revealed that WhatsApp is also working on a dark theme for the web version of the messaging service as well as its desktop app. Currently, both platforms, which help mobile users stay connected from their computers, run the light theme, which can be hard on your eyes in dark environments.
What the desktop dark mode looks like?
According to the screenshots shared by the tipster, the dark mode of WhatsApp Web and desktop would use the same color tones planned for the mobile apps. It won't be an OLED-friendly theme but will stay dark enough to let you chat at night without any discomfort. To note, WhatsApp's parent Facebook has already enabled the dark mode for its main website.
However, it's still a work in progress
In its current form, the dark mode looks pretty neat but it is not completely finished at this stage. The emoji section of the web and desktop app features a white background, which implies that the company still has a number of things to work on in order to make the theme ready for public launch.
When this theme will become available?
Once all the issues are ironed out, the dark theme will work on all the screens of WhatsApp's web version as well as Windows and Mac apps. However, given that the company takes a lot of time in internal testing, we cannot be completely sure about the availability timeline. It can, in fact, take more than a year.
