With the boom in digital communication in India, people are increasingly switching to video calls to have casual conversations with friends. Currently, the three most popular video calling apps in the country are WhatsApp, Google Duo, and Facebook Messenger that primarily focus on simplifying video communication for users. Let's look at all three of them in terms of features and user interface.
50 million minutes of video calls happened on WhatsApp daily
Indians reportedly made 50 million minutes of video calls daily on WhatsApp last year. The app lets users switch between front and rear cameras, mute video, and switch to video call from voice call with a single button tap. The screen shows the video being captured by your camera at the bottom right, along with a disable video call and an end call button.
With Google Duo, see caller's video before answering the call
Google Duo's USP is its Knock Knock feature that lets users see the video of the caller before they go ahead and answer the call. The app can be used to call people who don't even have Google Duo. The app offers voice calling and a high-quality mode that consumes more data. Its interface is simpler than WhatsApp since it doesn't support text messaging.
Video call more than one person on Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger's video calling feature has something that neither WhatsApp nor Google Duo has: group calling. Further, in Messenger, you can chat while running a video call in the Picture-in-Picture mode and put AR stickers and masks simultaneously. As for the interface, Messenger has a mute, video chat off and end call option, and a separate tab saving all your voice and video calls.
