Soon, WhatsApp will change how you share photos: Details here
If you use WhatsApp, there's a good chance you've encountered the problem of sending photos to wrong contacts. People often make this mistake and then correct it by redacting the message before the recipient sees it. But now, in a major update, the Facebook-owned company is working on a solution that would stop you from committing this blunder in the first place. Here's how.
How sharing a photo works at present
When you share a photo/video with a WhatsApp contact, the share screen provides the options to edit the image and add captions. The interface is neat but there's no name of the person who will be receiving the photo. In fact, the only thing connected to the recipient is an icon representing their DP in the upper-left corner, one that is easy to miss.
WhatsApp is working on a change
To eliminate the confusion stemming from the interface, WhatsApp is working on a minor tweak to let you double check who will be receiving the photo you're sending. Specifically, the company plans to show the name of the person who is going to receive the photo, below the box for the caption. The name would be shown for both individual WhatsApp contacts and groups.
When this feature would be available
The tweaked photo-sharing interface can be seen in WhatsApp's Android beta v2.19.173. The company has not said anything about when it plans to pass the capability into a stable release, but we can expect that to happen in the coming months. However, it still remains unclear if the same would be seen in the iOS beta version of the service too.
WhatsApp has introduced plenty of features lately
The tweak from WhatsApp comes just as the service continues to evolve the stable release of the messaging app with plenty of features, including the ability to block unknown people from adding you into groups as well as continuous voice message playback.
