WhatsApp tests feature to lock the voice recording button
WhatsApp is beta-testing a new feature that will allow users to lock the voice recording button. It aims to improve on the fact that currently, users have to tap and keep the microphone button pressed until they are finished recording a voice note. The feature is expected to be rolled out in the upcoming updates on Android.
How can you record voice notes in locked mode?
Here's how the locked voice recording feature will work: Users will be shown a lock icon when they want to send a voice note on WhatsApp, which has to be slid up to be enabled. Once that is done, it will be activated after 0.5 seconds of starting a recording. This will enable hands-free recording.
Things you can't do while using the locked recording feature
Though users will be able to navigate a chat while using the locked recording feature, they will not be able to type a new message or view photos and videos. They also can't chat with another person while recording in locked mode. That might result in the voice note getting deleted. However, some of these limitations are expected to get fixed before official launch.
Here are WhatsApp's recent app updates
WhatsApp recently updated its 'Delete for Everyone' feature, extending the deadline for users to delete sent messages from 420 seconds to 4,096 seconds. The chat app has also rolled out a Forwarded Message Label feature that tags all messages forwarded from another chat.
