WhatsApp launches "Demote as Admin" feature on Android
WhatsApp has officially rolled out its "Demote as Admin" or "Dismiss as Admin" feature on Android. The feature allows group chat admins to revoke the admin rights of other admins with a single click, without having to first remove them from the group. Earlier, users had to delete an admin from the group and add him back as a member.
Here's how to demote an admin
To demote an admin from a WhatsApp group, go to Group Info, click on the contact of the particular admin, and tap on the "Dismiss as Admin" option. The person will henceforth become a normal group member and not have any admin rights.
"Demote as Admin" complements the "Restrict Group" feature
The "Restrict Group" feature on WhatsApp allows only admins to send messages in the group chat. With this, admins can restrict other members from responding to texts and sending photographs, videos, GIFs, documents, and voice clips. Non-admin members will, however, still be able to view the sent messages in the group. The feature is currently available in WhatsApp version 2.18.132 and above.
WhatsApp is getting more group-focused features
Group chat admins can now choose who can edit the group's subject, icon, and description. WhatsApp has introduced group descriptions and a search bar on the group info screen. Another functionality finally stops users from repeatedly getting added to the groups they have left.
More new features: Media Visibility and New Contact
According to reports, WhatsApp has rolled out two new features on Android beta v2.18.159. With the Media Visibility feature, users can choose if they want the media received on WhatsApp to be added to their phone's gallery or not. The New Contact feature allows users to save a new contact received on the app without having to leave it.
