WhatsApp's latest iOS beta update brings dark mode, advanced search
Earlier this month, WhatsApp had released a beta update to bring dark mode to the iOS platform. However, not much was known about the new theme or how it looks on iPhones. But finally, WhatsApp has released a new 2.20.30.25 beta version that gives us a deeper look at the much-awaited dark mode. Moreover, the update introduces a new advanced search option as well.
WhatsApp's dark mode for the iPhone: What we know
According to WABetaInfo, a website known for tracking WhatsApp updates, the new beta version introduces an improved dark theme with "no battery drain", and it supports official iOS 13 APIs. The dark theme uses iOS 13 APIs to understand if the system uses a dark mode and automatically presents dark UI elements. At present, WhatsApp doesn't offer a dark mode for lower iOS versions.
Dark mode on iOS seemingly uses true black background
According to screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp's dark mode on iOS seems to be using a true black background instead of the dark green color we saw on Android. The chat bubbles appear in a dark contrasting color whereas the wallpaper and other settings menu have an all-black background with slightly contrasting menu bars. WhatsApp has also added several dark solid colored chat wallpapers.
WhatsApp for iOS supports a lighter dark theme as well
As highlighted by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp for iOS supports another lighter dark theme as well. You can test it by increasing the contrast in your iPhone Settings. In this second configuration, WhatsApp uses lighter dark colors for some of the UI elements.
The update also introduces advanced search mode for iOS users
WhatsApp's new iOS beta update also introduces a new advanced search mode. With this feature, you will be able to search specific messages or media files stored on your device such as web links, GIFs, audio, photos, documents, and videos. To try these features, you need to be a part of the WhatsApp TestFlight Program which has been full for quite some time now.
