Meta AI chatbot now available to select WhatsApp India users
WhatsApp has started testing Meta AI chatbot in India. As per Gadgets360, the Meta AI icon has now started appearing in the main chat list of the app for some users. The chatbot allows WhatsApp users to engage in diverse conversations, from answering questions to making suggestions or simply interacting. It is powered by Meta's in-house large language model called LLaMA, short for, Large Language Model Meta AI.
Meta AI chat feature limited to select countries
Currently, Meta AI is only accessible in a limited number of countries and supports only English. When initiating a conversation with Meta AI, users receive a notification stating "Messages from Meta AI and other characters are generated by artificial intelligence (AI), using a service from Meta, in response to the prompts you send to the AI." The tool is designed to read and reply only to chats mentioning @Meta AI.
WhatsApp ensures user privacy with Meta AI
WhatsApp states that the Meta AI tool does not have access to other chats, and can only respond to chats mentioning @Meta AI. The platform reassures users that their personal texts and calls remain end-to-end encrypted.Meta has also acknowledged on its FAQ page that "some messages generated by AIs might not be accurate or appropriate."
User interaction with the chatbot
To engage with Meta AI on WhatsApp, users need to tap on the circular icon on the top-right of the main chat window, accept terms if prompted, select or type a prompt, and then tap send. WhatsApp also collects feedback on Meta AI's responses from users who can rate them as 'Good response' or 'Bad response' and provide reasons for their ratings. This user feedback helps in refining and improving the AI's performance.
