Soon, you'll see videos in WhatsApp's notifications: Details here
WhatsApp is reportedly bringing new video preview capabilities in its latest beta version for iOS. The feature, which is being rolled out in version 2.18.102.5 of the app, will let you see videos sent by your friends right through the push notification of that message. This could prove handy for quick replies, but may also raise some privacy concerns. Here's more about it.
How notification previews would work?
Famous WhatsApp tipster WABetaInfo confirmed the rollout, noting that the feature would allow users to play videos directly from their notification bar. Details are pretty nascent at this stage, but the functionality could be similar to WhatsApp's image/GIF previews, which was rolled-out a while back. At present, WhatsApp only shows the name of the sender and a snapshot of clips in the notification area.
But, how could it raise privacy concerns
The feature would enable quick responses, but at the same time, it could also raise some serious privacy concerns. Essentially, many privacy-conscious users, who don't want their media files to open in public, could find the feature annoying. However, we hope that WhatsApp would let users tweak settings and avoid video previews in the final version.
And, when the final version would come?
The feature appears to be in the final stages and should be available for iOS users pretty soon, according to WABetaInfo. However, there is no word when something similar would come for those using Android. Also, if you want to try the feature right away, you can go for WhatsApp for iOS beta (v2.18.102.5 ) but remember that beta versions are unstable and buggy.
WhatsApp's interesting updates
The feature marks another major improvement for WhatsApp, which has been pushing a series of interesting updates. Just recently, it introduced the ability to send and receive stickers, swipe to reply and even issue private replies for group chats.
