WhatsApp allows Windows users to start chats with unsaved contacts
WhatsApp has introduced a new feature for its Windows app that lets users initiate chats with unsaved phone numbers. It is currently accessible to select beta testers, as part of the Windows beta update carrying version 2.2342.6.0, and will be expanded to more users in the upcoming days. The feature, which is already available on iOS and Android, eliminates the need to save unknown numbers to your contacts before starting a conversation.
How the new feature works
The feature adds a new screen within the app from where users can enter an unknown phone number to begin a chat. If you are a beta user, you can check if the feature is available for you by heading to "New chat" section and you should be able to locate an entry point labeled "Phone number." Also, users can search for phone numbers by typing them in the search bar within the "New chat" screen to start a conversation.
The feature ensures a more private messaging experience
This novel feature offers multiple benefits for WhatsApp users. First, it prevents the address book from becoming cluttered with unverified or temporary phone numbers. Second, it ensures a more secure messaging experience as you can initiate quick conversations with new people without having to save their number. This way, you would not have to worry about modifying your privacy settings, including the visibility of your profile picture and status.
How to start conversations with unknown numbers on Android/iOS
The process to start a new WhatsApp conversation with unknown numbers on Android and iOS is similar to the Windows app. First, ensure you are running the latest version of WhatsApp on your mobile. Then, open WhatsApp and click on the icon for a new chat. Enter the number you want to text in the search bar. If the number is listed on WhatsApp, it will appear under 'Not in your contacts.' Click on 'Chat' to start a conversation.
