You can now download WhatsApp on your JioPhone, JioPhone 2
WhatsApp for the JioPhone and the JioPhone 2 had long been promised, and was supposed to be available on Jio's KaiOS from August 15. However, the roll out got delayed. Now, finally, WhatsApp has announced that the app will be available on the KaiOS AppStore, starting September 10, and will work on both JioPhone and JioPhone 2. Here are the details.
What we know about the KaiOS WhatsApp app
For the JioPhone line-up, Facebook-owned WhatsApp said that it had built a new version of its app "to give people a simple, reliable, and secure way to communicate with friends and family." Like its smartphone variant, the KaiOS WhatsApp app will feature the same end-to-end encryption for security, and users will be able to share messages, photos, and videos.

"WhatsApp is available in the JioPhone AppStore starting today. You can download WhatsApp on both the JioPhone and the JioPhone 2 by visiting the AppStore and clicking Download," announced WhatsApp in a blog post dated September 10.
Meanwhile, what does JioPhone 2 offer?
JioPhone 2 sports a 2.4-inch QVGA horizontal display with a 0.3MP VGA camera up front and a 2MP snapper on the back. The phone is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, paired with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage (expandable up to 128GB). Notably, JioPhone 2 runs KaiOS which supports Google Assistant, YouTube, Facebook and WhatsApp (phased rollout).
WhatsApp will bolster KaiOS' catalog of popular apps
WhatsApp will mark the latest addition to JioPhone's catalog of popular apps that already includes the likes of Facebook, YouTube, and Google Maps. In December last year, Google launched Google Assistant for KaiOS, and Facebook followed in Google's footsteps to launch its KaiOS app in February this year. Google Maps was added in July, and YouTube came after that.
