WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram down; users report media download issues
The services of popular social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are reportedly down in what appears to be a global outage. Users of these Facebook-owned platforms across the US, Europe, Africa, and Asia, including India and Japan, are facing issues with media downloads. Meanwhile, some reports said it seems to be a problem related to Facebook servers, which power these platforms. Here's more.
WhatsApp users unable to share or download media
According to reports, users of Instagram reported issues initially following which reports of Facebook and WhatsApp services suffering technical glitches emerged. Meanwhile, in India, normal WhatsApp chats and Instagram posts and Stories are active but downloading media in any form, including images, audio and video files, appears to be down for a number of users of these two platforms.
WhatsApp showing 'Download Failed' error message, say users
Many WhatsApp users are complaining that while they are able to send files, the app is preventing them from downloading media that has been sent to them with a "Download Failed" error message that reads, "Can't download. Please ask that it be resent to you."
Images and videos fail to load on Instagram
Instagram users reported issues with logging in, sharing media, and while trying to access the photo-sharing app. Images and videos also failed to load on the platform. On its desktop site too, images weren't being loaded and a message saying, "No photo description available," was being displayed. Instagram apologized to its users on Twitter, adding it was "working to get things back to normal."
