    What's the story

WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to share their status updates directly on Instagram, according to WABteaInfo.

The primary goal of this feature is to enhance media sharing by enabling cross-posting of WhatsApp status updates to Instagram Stories.

Instead of composing and sharing individual updates on WhatsApp and Instagram, users will have the convenience of completing this action in one simple step.

This implies that users can save time by avoiding duplicate efforts on both platforms.

    User autonomy

User control and privacy in new feature

The new WhatsApp feature is currently under development. Upon its release, users will have the option to activate it.

Initially, the cross-posting capability will be inactive, requiring opt-ins.

Post-activation, users can opt out of this feature anytime, ensuring user control over its use.

Additionally, they can dictate who sees their shared content on Instagram via their Instagram story audience settings.

WhatsApp's recent measures against account misuse

Separately, WhatsApp has recently taken strict measures against account misuse in India.

In February, the messaging app banned a record 7.6 million accounts in the country, with 1.4 million being 'proactively banned.'

These actions were taken in line with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 to combat platform misuse and ensure compliance.
