WhatsApp's upcoming Dark Mode for Android gets new battery-saver option
WhatsApp has long been working on a new Dark Mode. And now, the feature seems to be getting some final changes before the launch. According to WABetaInfo, which has previously spotted the feature in several beta updates, the company has added a new setting wherein the Dark Mode theme will be automatically enabled, depending upon your phone's battery saver settings.
Understanding the new setting for Dark Mode on WhatsApp
WhatsApp has updated its Android beta app to version 2.19.353 wherein it has introduced this new setting for Dark Mode. With this setting, WhatsApp can automatically enable/disable Dark Mode based on your battery saver settings. Hence, WhatsApp will continue to run on the Light theme until the battery saver settings are triggered on your phone, after which the theme will change to Dark.
It will be available for Android 9 or earlier versions
Further, according to WABetaInfo, the 'Set by Battery Saver' option will be visible on Android 9 or lower versions. The handsets shipping with Android 10 will not see this option and will instead have a system default option considering the OS supports system-wide Dark Mode.
Recently, WhatsApp also renamed Disappearing Messages feature to 'Delete Messages'
Alongside the Dark Mode, WhatsApp is also working to introduce a new self-destructing messages feature that we've seen on rivals like Signal and Telegram. In a recent development, the company renamed the Disappearing Messages feature to Delete Messages. Moreover, the previous beta update has also confirmed that the 'Delete Messages' feature has been developed for the dark mode version as well.
Users will have five time intervals to choose from
For the 'Delete Messages' feature, you will have five options to choose from: 1-hour, 1-day, 1-week, 1-month, and 1-year. So, if you select the 1-hour option, every message sent in that particular chat will disappear after 1-hour, without leaving any trace. For individual chats, you'll have an on/off button in the 'Contact info' while in group chats, only admins will have access to it.
