WhatsApp will bring the 'self destructing' messages, really soon
By now, everyone knows that WhatsApp is working to introduce disappearing messages and dark mode on its platform, to enhance the messaging experience. Over the past few weeks, several reports have confirmed the presence of these features in the beta stage and how they would function. And now, in the latest update, more information about these exciting features have been revealed.
Disappearing messages feature renamed to 'Delete Messages'
According to WABetaInfo, which has dug deep into the new WhatsApp beta version 2.19.348 for Android, the upcoming disappearing messages feature has now been renamed 'Delete Messages'. The feature, currently not ready for public beta testers, will be available for individual and group chats. It is essentially the same as 'self-destructing messages' feature that is already available on Telegram and Signal messaging apps.
Users will have five time intervals to choose from
As for settings of self-destruct timers for messages, you will have five options to choose from: 1-hour, 1-day, 1-week, 1-month, and 1-year. So, if you select the 1-hour option, every message sent in that particular chat will disappear after 1-hour. For individual chats, you'll have an on/off button in the 'Contact info' while in group chats, only admins will have access to this feature.
The feature doesn't leave a trace on deleted messages
Unlike the existing 'Delete for Everyone' option, the 'Delete Messages' feature doesn't leave a trace. When you manually delete a message on WhatsApp, the chat window shows that the message has been deleted. But with the 'Delete Messages' feature, no such information will be displayed.
'Delete Messages' feature will work in dark mode as well
This latest WhatsApp beta update has also confirmed that the 'Delete Messages' feature has been developed for the upcoming dark mode, which is currently available in beta version. The dark mode feature re-colors the app and most of its screens, including chat windows and settings, with a dark grey/black shade to ease eye strain and reduce battery consumption on OLED screens.
