How Samsung improved audio experience for its TWS earphones
Samsung introduced a unique codec, the Samsung Scalable Codec (SSC), to enhance audio streaming quality. This innovative technology was first seen on the Galaxy Buds lineup in 2019, which supported 16-bit audio with SSC, AAC, and SBC codecs. However, with the launch of Buds2 Pro, the firm upgraded its proprietary Bluetooth codec to support 24-bit audio, and increased the sample rate from 44.1kHz to 48kHz. This enhanced version is now known as the Samsung Seamless Codec.
Evolution of SSC into Samsung Seamless Codec
The SSC offers a stable Bluetooth connection with dynamic bitrate, ensuring smooth communication between Samsung devices and earphones. The SSC is designed to deliver high-resolution audio on compatible Galaxy devices. It has the ability to analyze its surroundings, detect Wi-Fi interference, and automatically adjust its bitrate (ranging from 88kbps to 512kbps) to prevent audio glitches or delays. In contrast, Samsung Seamless Codec offers improved details, dynamic range, clarity, and higher resolution without compromising on sound quality.
Factors influencing audio quality
The use of devices compatible with the Samsung Seamless Codec may not always guarantee enhanced audio quality. This is because several factors can influence the sound quality, including connection strength, source file format, the apps used for streaming, and ambient Wi-Fi interference. Despite these variables, the codec is designed to maintain a consistent high-quality sound experience for users.
Samsung's Bluetooth codec and UHQ audio
Samsung Seamless Codec also integrates UHQ audio to enhance the sound resolution of videos and audio files. This feature is available on various Galaxy series, including the C, A, J, M, Z, Note, and S series. To experience the benefits of Seamless Codec, users must pair their Galaxy Buds with a Samsung phone running One UI 3.0 or later versions.
How to set Samsung Seamless Codec as default?
Turn on Bluetooth on your Samsung phone and pair with Galaxy Buds. Open Settings > About phone > Software information. Tap Build number seven times to enable Developer options, and authenticate if prompted. Return to Settings > Developer options. Now, scroll to Bluetooth Audio Codec, Select SSC and tap OK. Note that if SSC is not supported, it will be grayed out.
