Most expensive iPhone has an animation bug, users aren't happy
Apple's iPhone Xs and Xs Max are one of the best-configured smartphones in the market right now. They have got all the power you'd expect from a flagship, but surprisingly, some units of the phones are witnessing a weird 'stuttering' glitch. The problem is not critical but can be annoying when you've spent more than a lakh on a phone. Here's all about it.
Some iPhone Xs models stutter after few seconds of inactivity
Multiple users have taken to Facebook and Apple's discussions forum to complain about the weird stuttering issue. They have claimed that after a certain period of inactivity, say about 10-15 seconds, the animation of launching/closing an app or scrolling on the screen falters by a bit. It drops by a few frames and may or may not go unnoticed by the user.
Most evident while closing an app
As 9To5Mac reports, the issue is most evident when an app running static content is left idle for 10-15 seconds - with nothing touched - and then closed by the swipe-up action. Here, you could see the closing animation skipping a couple of frames.
However, the problem is really subtle
As the stutter lasts only for a fraction of a second, it might go unnoticed if you are not really attentive. This suggests many users might not even be aware of the problem. Those who did notice the issue managed to get a replacement from Apple, but even the fresh units carried the same flaw.
People have been witnessing this problem for months now
The reports detail the issue back to October, which means that the problem has existed for a while now. Some speculated that the issue is with A12 Bionic chipset which powers down during idle time and fails to pick up the initial touch.
Either way, Apple should fix this with an update
The problem continues to exist through iOS 12, iOS 12.1, and iOS 12.2 beta, but has not been spotted on iPhone XR running the same chip. This indicates that a software update from Apple should probably fix the stutter. However, nobody knows when that might happen; Apple has not commented on the matter or explained what exactly is causing the animation to lag.
